茶碗 平成时代 巻白 木版画 (Primary Title)
Tea Bowl, #65 (Former Title)
Maki Haku, Japanese, 1924 - 2000 (Artist)
In his later career, Maki Haku used both Japanese and Chinese elements to create abstract designs. Here, the artist placed the simple form of a tea bowl as the composition’s focal point. A circle on the vessel symbolizes emptiness and enlightenment in Zen Buddhism, which Japanese tea masters pursued since the 15th century.
Sōsaku-hanga 創作版画
The print is created in the style of Sōsaku-hanga (創作版画 creative prints), an art movement active in early 20th-century Japan.
