Seated Goddess (Primary Title)

Unknown (Artist)

ca. late 6th–early 5th century BC
terracotta, pigment
Overall: 5 3/4 × 3 1/4 × 2 7/8 in. (14.6 × 8.3 × 7.3 cm)
This seated goddess closely resembles examples from Athens, where hundreds of terracotta statuettes were buried on the Acropolis after the Persian sack of the Acropolis in 480 BC. Like the nearby standing figure, the goddess has an “Archaic smile.”
