Angellis was likely indebted to French artists such as Antoine Watteau (1684–1771) for this idyllic view of country life. As indicated by the man in the apron, this game of skittles takes place at an inn, the focus of social life in the country. The beautiful landscape is probably imagined rather than topographically accurate.
