Urn Lid (Primary Title)
Unknown (Artist)
This lid was made for a chest containing the remains of Av(le) Sure Zucre, identified by an Etruscan inscription. The figure reclines, as if at a banquet, and probably held a cup or a writing tablet in his missing right hand. The facial features look as if they depict a specific person but are actually more generic and closely resemble images on other urn lids found in the cemeteries of ancient Velathri (modern Volterra).
