When it is not being used in rituals, an Òrìsà Oko staff (right) is kept inside a sheath like this one. The beaded decorations protect the sacred staff from the secular world, and the bold designs often reflect the owner’s personal taste. The face onthis sheath reminds the carrier or the viewer of his or her own destiny or orí inú (inner being).
