Edmond de Goncourt (Primary Title)
Félix Bracquemond, French, 1833 - 1914 (Artist)
This penetrating and artful portrait depicts one of 19th- century France’s most celebrated writers and connoisseurs. Like Bracquemond, Edmond de Goncourt appreciated Japanese art. However, here the accessories in the rococo style confirm Goncourt’s standing as one of the great amateurs of 18th-century French art.
Signed in ink lower right: "à mon ami A Lemerre/ Bracquemond."
