Ethiopian icons frequently depict Christ wearing a crown of thorns, as seen in the center of this small devotional work, with the Crucifixion to the left. On the reverse, an image of the Virgin and Child and one of Saint George slaying the dragon complete the ensemble of four paintings. When closed, the unit can be worn as a pendant necklace.
