"I Sing the Body Electric was relevant for me— with its crude and ecstatic celebration of the physical and its energetic, detailed, and lusty list of body parts." —Brian H. Peterson

Since 1969 Peterson has used the camera to record elements of the natural world as well as people close to him. For his recent series, I Sing the Body, Peterson turned his lens on himself to address issues of the aging body. As the title suggests, he was inspired by the Walt Whitman poem that famously celebrates physicality. Peterson creates the works in this series using multiple images and computer editing programs, adjusting such aspects as contrast, density, saturation, and color to produce a balanced whole. I Sing the Body #6 comprises three sources: a frontal picture of his torso as reflected in a mirror; a picture of gnarled and twisted bark on a beech tree; and a close up of bits of wood, leaves, and dirt.
