Born in the Ukraine, Adolphe Mouron moved to Paris around 1920 to study art and assumed the pseudonym Cassandre for his artistic production. Inspired by cubist and surrealist imagery, Cassandre imbued his compositions with a dreamlike quality, while still incorporating modern, geometric designs. This travel advertisement for the French Railway Company uses a defined perspective to draw the viewer’s gaze through the arch to view two iconic Parisian landmarks—the Luxor Obelisk at the Palace de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe behind it.
