Late Spring (Primary Title)
Dorothy Gillespie, American, 1920 - 2012 (Artist)
My work has no hidden stuff that needs to be explained. It simply is—clever or otherwise.—Dorothy Gillespie
Born in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1920, Gillespie moved to New York in 1943. There she championed the cause of women artists, advocating for more professional opportunities and serving as a coordinator for the Women’s Interart Center in the 1970s. Late Spring encapsulates the core characteristics of her style: a vibrant palette of organic shapes arranged on a grand scale.
