Mount Fuji inspired generations of Japanese printmakers, including Hasui. Regardless of climate or time of day, Mount Fuji enchanted visitors and artists alike. Seen here at dusk, Fuji is partially shrouded in rain clouds—a fleeting moment captured in dark blue and green inks. On Suruga Bay at the mouth of the Fuji River, structures like Tagonoura Bridge would have accommodated frequent traders and travelers since the Edo period (1615–1868).
