Wolf Caught in a Trap (Primary Title)
Antoine-Louis Barye, French, 1796 - 1875 (Artist)
This powerful sculpture encourages the viewer to empathize with the pain of the trapped animal, while at the same time affirming man’s superiority over beasts. Wolves were considered dangers to country dwellers; they were not hunted for sport.
