William Watt, English (London), 1867 - 1885 (Artist)
Edward William Godwin, English, 1833 - 1886 (Maker)
The general form of this chair by Edward W. Godwin represents the same Japanese aesthetic as seen in his cabinet on the far left platform. The cane seating and turned stiles reflect Godwin’s interest in historic English furnishings. An identical chair was on display at manufacturer William Watt’s booth at the 1878 World’s Fair in Paris.
