Rouen Harbor (Primary Title)
Paul Signac, French, 1863 - 1935 (Artist)
As Signac developed his brand of Neo-Impressionism, he moved away from the rigid formality of the movement’s early days, using broader brushstrokes and a loose application of paint. Signac’s view of Rouen Harbor, a recognizable and favorite subject of the Impressionist Camille Pissarro, is a uniquely relaxed interpretation of the buoys and waterside cranes.
Watercolor on chine, impressed into wove paper.
