Eugène Louis Lami, French, 1800 - 1890 (Artist)
In 1815, Lami’s career as a printmaker, watercolorist, painter and architect began under the tutelage of Horace Vernet and Richard Parkes Bonington. He later became the official artist to both King Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III. In 1862, Lami was made Officer of the Legion of Honor. According to French publisher Henri Béraldi: “One well recognizes in [Lami] an artist in love with modernity and the elegant portrayal of modern life, who knew how to see . . . a nineteenth century which is aristocratic, even glittering, a nineteenth century of elegant society, sport, the hunt, balls, fetes, revues, galas.”
