The foregon was a baggage wagon, so called because it preceded the royal family or other wealthy owners with their luggage when traveling. Cordey’s naïve style, in which the horses and the foreground are shown in strict profile, nevertheless conveys the formality and precision characterizing the royal retinue.
Signed and dated at lower left "Cordrey Pinx.t 1812." Arthur Ackermann & Son tag on back of stretcher.
