Central Plaque from a Cross (Primary Title)
Unknown (Artist)
This crucifix is surrounded by small pierced holes that indicate it was originally part of a larger object, probably a processional cross. The small figure at the foot of the cross is Adam, whose original sin was atoned for through Christ’s sacrifice.
Three labels adhered to the back: 1. "K660 C"; 2. "E 97"; 3. "Sotheby's 3920159478"; tag marked "Sotheby's The Keir Collection 072 Sotheby's 1997" was removed and placed in Curatorial file.
Illegible red letters painted across back, center.
