[1] Probably Sir Joseph Duveen [1843-1908] and Henry Duveen [1854-1919], co-founders of the Duveen Brothers firm of art galleries. Joseph Duveen II [1869-1939], Sir Joseph Duveen's don, was also an influential art dealer and carried on the Duveen Brothers firm after Sir Joseph's death. The painting was possibly in the Deveen Bros. collection until 1925. Unconfirmed. See VMFA Curatorial file.
