Kong Xuan applied remarkable brushwork and light colors to depict these springtime blooms of orchids and peonies.  Born in Qufu, Shandong Province, Kong Xuan spent most of his life in Shanghai. His art, characterized by a painterly style and effects of light and shadow, engenders an immediate appeal with its decorative beauty, symbolizing harmony between nature and mankind.
