Commentaries on Calligraphy in Small Standard Script (Translation)
小楷節錄書評四屏 近現代 梁鼎芬 綾本 (Primary Title)
Liang Dingfen, Chinese, 1859 - 1920 (Artist)
This set of four scrolls written on satin reveals the grace and delicacy of small-standard script, a style favored by the Qing imperial court. In this work, Liang Dingfen transcribed scholarly commentary on old masters of calligraphy, and composed it in a unique zigzag composition. After the fall of the Qing court in 1911, Liang served as a tutor to the last emperor Pu Yi (1906-1967) and became an advocate for public education and the revival of the Qing legacy.
