Uragami was best known as a musician who played the Chinese seven-string zither. He did not pursue painting until after 1795 when he retired from official service and lived a reclusive life. In this small painting, the artist used dry, sketchy, shortbrushstrokes and created a lyrical landscape that reveals his talent as not only a Nanga-school painter but also a poet and calligrapher as inscribed in the title.
