Roll of Wallpaper (Arbutus) (Primary Title)
Kathleen Kersey, English, 1889–after 1900 (Artist)
Morris & Company, British (London), 1881–1940 (Manufacturer)
In the late 19th century, a growing number of female artists were employed by British Arts and Crafts firms. William Morris hired multiple women to create designs for his company, Morris & Co., including Kathleen Kersey. Arbutus is one of only two known designs by Kersey that were realized as completed wallpaper for Morris & Co., though she sketched multiple others. Kersey also developed numerous designs for textiles, including tapestries and furnishing fabrics.
