Printed on front: "SLAP AT A BROOK. / NOW for your mettle ! A brook with rails for you ! A slapper, by / St. George ! Here goes one of the Qualified. In to a dead certainty : / but that is the nearest way to the other side ; sothat is all right. On / the same calculation go all the Qualified. The next meadow might as / well be a mile off, for three parts of the field never reach it. / [verse] 'Tis very few will try a brook / With rails pitched on this side ; / And manycome and only look, / Then cry, "How monstrous wide !" // But some went first who plainly took / The whole at one great stride ; / Aye, they had nerves that never shook-- / They were--the tip-top--Qualified." Inscribed in graphite on verso: "HRH 20 / 23/1"
