The design of this capital, with its intermingled fantastic creatures, is vigorous and imaginative. Each of the longer faces depicts a squatting, humanlike figure flanked by apelike creatures or lions. The scenes suggest some form of animal training and may have been inspired by an ancient Roman relief depicting a circus game.
