Asano River is one of the largest rivers in Kanazawa, the prefectural capital of Ishikawa, on Japan's main island of Honshu. The first bridge over the river was built in 1594 by Maeda Toshiie, a ruler of Kaga. More than three centuries later, after the development of modern transportation, Hasui journeyed to Kanazawa from Tokyo. This print illustrates a picturesque view of the bridge: a single man crosses over at sunset, while a flock of geese frolics in the water below. Two years after Hasui produced this print, a disastrous flood washed away the bridge. Hasui captured the last view of the structure before railroad tracks were built over the river during a reconstruction in 1922.
