Alert Basset Hound (Primary Title)
Jules Moigniez, French, 1835 - 1894 (Artist)
In this rare cast, a well-tended, personable hound bristles with attention. Sculptures by Moigniez were popular in the United States and England, as well as France. Crisp details, a rich brown patina, and charming subject matter make this a striking and highly successful sculpture. “Basseting” is a variety of the sport of hunting hare by scent.
