China’s Qing dynasty emperors were avid collectors of Mughal-style jades, and it is often difficult to tell whether particular piece was produced in India or in China. This ornate object with five concave compartments might have been a container for cosmetics. Alternatively, it may have been an elaborate serving utensil, with a handle attached to its slightly projecting, tanglike stem.
