This pair of screens depicts an autumn view of Musashi Plain in western Tokyo, with Mount Fuji rising above the clouds in the left scene and a full moon falling behind the grasses and wildflowers in the right. Musashi Plain appeared in ancient Japanese poetry of the Heian period, including Collection of Ten Thousands of Leaves and Tale of Ise. In the early Edo period, the Musashi Plain reemerged as a popular subject in art. The original silver has darkened as a result of oxidation over time.
