This bold and imaginative cream pot in the shape of an ancient rhyton with a cow head terminus is testament to the amazing ability of Sèvres porcelain to continuously occupy the forefront of taste and fashion. It was designed by Alexandre-Evariste Fragonard, son of the famous rococo painter Jean-Honoré, and was commissioned by Alexandre Brongniart, the neoclassical architect and director of the Sèvres manufactory who restored the factory’s former eminence after the ravages of the French Revolution.
Marks: printed interlaced Ls including 'Sevres' and a fleur de lys; incised JB and sz. 11.
