Like Upper Half of a Door (2013.336), this masterpiece of reproductive printmaking seriously challenges photography’s ability to reproduce the textures and nuances of art. In this case, the elaborate theatrical scene by the leader of the French symbolist movement, Gustave Moreau, shows David, the young biblical hero, comforting mad King Saul.
