Mount Fuji’s expansive shadow is cast over the small village of Oshino, located in the northern foothills, about sixty miles from Tokyo. A number of traditional subjects are represented, from domestic dwellings and barren trees to a figure deep in thought. The frozen ground and icy winter sky create an expressive palette of blue and white.
