Wu Guxiang, a painter from Zhejiang Province in southeastern China, was also known by his pen name, Qiunong, meaning “Autumn Farmer”, a reference to the reclusive lifestyle of Chinese scholars. He specialized in flower, landscape, and figurative paintings of women, and was known by his firm brushwork and misty mountain landscapes. In the style of Qing-dynasty painter Dai Xi, this painting layers mountains in the background with scattered trees in the foreground.
