Poppaea Sabina (AD 30–65) was first the mistress and later the wife of Emperor Nero. Ancient historians regarded her as ambitious and ruthless, but many of the stories associated with her (such as her involvement in Nero’s murder of his wife, Agrippina, and first wife, Claudia Octavia) canbe questioned. Tacitus, Suetonius, and Dio Cassius claim that she died while pregnant, after Nero kicked her in the abdomen.
