This dramatic outfit (2013.196a-l) was worn by a Zulu woman of high standing in the Maphumulo region, a rural area in today’s province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Zulu women usually bead their own attire, but as the date for her wedding approaches, her sisters or friends might help.
