For the people of ancient Mexico, feasts were such an important part of both life and the afterlife that bowls and other food vessels were often placed in tombs. In fact, excavations in western Mexico reveal evidence of actual food remains in such vessels. Although the exact type of fruit on this bowl is hard to discern, it is clear that the artist was intent on offering sustenance for the deceased in the afterlife.
small sticker on bottom of bowl reads, "63"
