Geometric Pyxis (Storage Box) with Lid (Primary Title)
Unknown (Artist)
Every surface of this elegant container is decorated with concentric circles (painted with multiheaded brushes), chevrons, and meanders-even the bottom is decorated with a fourteen-petalled rosette made with a compass. The pyxis was used for storing small objects such as cosmetics and jewelry; this example was held securely closed by strings running through the holes in the lid and lip of the bowl.
