Lu Runxiang 陸潤庠, Chinese, 1841 - 1915 (Artist)
Lu Runxiang, a scholar, court official, and talented calligrapher, served Empress Dowager Cixi and China’s last emperor, Pu Yi. Most of his calligraphic works were written in semicursive and standard script (xingkai) in a balanced and restrained form. This pair of scrolls counsels that the practice of good virtues leads to prosperity and longevity. It reads from right to left: 宣時布和修得行惠,曾榮益譽受福宜年。
