Unknown (Artist)
Most likely a fragment of a full, mounted terracotta cavalryman, this head is realistically modeled with detailed bridle and represents a horse in combat during the Silla Kingdom’s territorial expansion across the Korean Peninsula. This clay horse head resembles in artistic style the horse and rider sculptures excavated in 1924 from a 6th-century tomb in Gyeongju, Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.
