The eight-line inscription includes the tomb owner’s name as well as a spell from the Egyptian Book of the Dead to activate the shabti in the next world. In readiness for his service, the shabti carries a pick, an adze, and a basket over his left shoulder.

Psamtik’s shabtis are prized for their careful details and rich color. The crisp inscription and details of VMFA’s shabti indicate that it was made before the mold had worn down.
