Page from a Ragamala Series: Lalita Ragini (Primary Title)
Unknown (Artist)
The Bhairava Raga cycle ends at dawn with the poignant Lalita Ragini. Following the much-anticipated reunion with her lover, the heroine now lies asleep on her bed, drained from the previous night’s passions. As the sun—quite literally—peeks through misty morning clouds, the hero slips away from her bedchamber, exchanging a knowing glance with the maidservant who fans her mistress. He approaches a stylized door leading out of her residence and to a staircase, at the bottom of which his horse, groom, and a musician have waited patiently through the night. The flower garlands he clutches will serve as keepsakes until his eventual return.
