Writer, painter, and designer Henri Gabriel Ibels is perhaps best remembered for his graphic illustrations, which were heavily influenced by his good friend, fellow artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. This design serves as a promotional poster for singer-songwriter and pantomime actor Jules Mévisto’s performance at the concert-cafe l’Horloge. Ibels created multiple designs depicting Mévisto wearing his signature Pierrot costume, eight of which illustrated the covers of Mévisto’s sheet music written by Montoja and Gaston Maquis in 1895.
