The Gongbung Pavilion is the north gate of Gongsan Fortress, Gongju, in South Korea. The pavilion was built in 1320 during the rule of the Goryeo dynasty and functioned as both defensive structure and government palace. In this print, Hasui depicts the pavilion with a large, slanting roof covered by gray tiles and supported by wooden columns painted in red. As with many of his other compositions, the artist includes locals in the landscape. Here, a solitary man in white clothing can be seen sitting on the railing of the pavilion, looking out at the mountains in the distance.
