This figure of a standing woman, like the seated goddess nearby, has the “Archaic smile” typical of Greek art in the late 6th and early 5th centuries BC. Both the chiton (tunic) and himation (mantle) were popular Greek garments. Similar figurines have been found in both burials and sanctuaries; they may represent deities, attendants, or servants.
