This boat came from the burial of Lord and Lady Djehutynakt, which contained the largest fleet of boat models (fifty-eight) in an Egyptian tomb. This model shows a transport boat with eight oarsmen seated opposite the helmsman and now-missing rudder. Boat models and depictions of boats occur in many Egyptian tombs because of the importance of the Nile for agriculture, communication, and trade as well as the symbolic importance of boats in Egyptian religion.
