Known as the “Temple of Buddhist land,” the Bulguksa Temple is located in modern-day Gyeongju, South Korea. In this evening view, Hasui depicts the temple courtyard with light from the interior seen through the door panel, balancing the moonlight in the sky. Originally built in the 8th century, the temple was destroyed by Japanese forces in 1592 but was reconstructed in the late 19th century. The temple consists of a prayer hall and two stone pagodas in the courtyard, representing the 8th-century Silla style. The Bulguksa Temple along with the nearby Seokguram Grotto is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
